Services for staff of PIRSA and SARDI
The services specified below are available to agriculture, aquaculture
and fishing industries staff employed by the Primary Industries and Resources
South Australia (including the South Australian Research & Development
Institute).
To register as a borrower, contact the Waite
Library or
Roseworthy
Campus Library.
How to register with the Library
Approved staff of PIRSA/SARDI must register
for a Library card (and barcode) to request document delivery services
or to access electronic resources such as journals and databases.
Apply for registration during office hours at the Services Desk of the
Barr Smith Library, Waite Library or Roseworthy Campus Library.
Please bring with you proof of employment with PIRSA/SARDI (eg payslip,
ID card) or offer of appointment.
If you are unable to visit the Library personally, we can arrange for
a temporary card (and barcode) for 3 months. You must then arrange to personally
pick up and sign for a permanent card before this expiry date.
Library orientation and user instruction
Library orientation tours and sessions on
the range of information and services available from the Library can be
provided on an individual or group basis. Advance notice is requested.
Offsite visits by the Waite Librarian can also be arranged for information
sessions at individual sites.
Library catalogue
The University of Adelaide Library catalogue
is available via the Web and will work with any browser.
The catalogues of the three South Australian universities, the State
Library of South Australia and the National Bibliographic Database are
available from here
Loans
Staff as specified may borrow personally
from any of the libraries in the Adelaide University Library system. Onsite
borrowers may request intercampus loans from other
campuses. Offsite borrowers should refer to the section on Document
Delivery.
All loans are checked out to the individual borrower's loan file.
Borrowers are asked to observe the due date on the receipt slip (or on
your My Library account) as demerit
points accrue for overdue items. Renewals may be requested from the
Library by phone or self-renewed using the catalogue (login to your My
Library account) unless another user is waiting for the item.

Books: 50 items [10 week loan , 4 renewals] Loans may be recalled after
2 weeks if the book is requested by another user.
Journals are not for loan.
Roseworthy Campus Library

Photocopying within the Library
To use the photocopiers in any of the University
of Adelaide libraries, a re-loadable Copycard must be purchased
from a dispensing machine or a departmental
Copycard arranged (contact
the Library for details).

How do I make a request?
On-site and off-site personnel
Requests should be made on an electronic
request form.
You must fill in a separate request form for each individual item.
We will send you a confirmation email copy of each request for your
records.
Charges
How long will it take?
Most requests are processed within the day of receipt at the Document
Delivery Service. Turn around time varies according to the supplying library
and availability but generally can be filled within 1-5 days.
Waite and Roseworthy Campus-based personnel will be notified by email
or internal postal notification of items awaiting collection. Items requested
by off-campus borrowers will be despatched by DX courier where available
or Australia Post. Where possible, photocopied articles will be sent
via Desktop delivery.
Desktop (web) Delivery
Desktop delivery allows you to retrieve a photocopied article direct
from any internet connected computer. An automated email supplies
you with a URL and PIN to access a web page displaying your (PDF) documents.
When filling out the electronic request form, the default delivery
option for photocopies is for Desktop Delivery which requires you to have
access to the Internet (high speed modem) with a web browser, email and
Adobe Acrobat software version 6. If you do not want this form of
delivery click on the down arrow to the right of the box (i.e. My preferred
delivery method is ) and change the default to either collect in person,
mail or fax.

Document Delivery citing your Library barcode number and item details.
You will be required to return any item required by another borrower
or if you have used the maximum number of extensions allowed. Failure to
renew or return items on time can result in the suspension of borrowing
privileges and an invoice for the cost of a replacement. See Demerits
Points information for further details.
What if there's a problem?
We will contact you by phone or email if there are any problems with
your request or if the item cannot be sourced within the University of
Adelaide Library.

Charges
How long will it take?
The delivery of documents from Australian and overseas sources varies
between 3 days to 2 weeks depending on availability and mode of delivery.
Loans of items provided through the Document Delivery Service are subject
to the conditions of the lending library. Such conditions may include restricted
use within the Library only, a short loan period or no extensions. Please
observe the due date marked on the Library label.
Borrowing from other S.A. university
libraries
PIRSA/SARDI staff who have a University of
Adelaide Library card can borrow personally from the libraries of Flinders
University and/or the University of South Australia. Lending rights are
restricted.

Demerit points
The Library operates on the basis of fair
sharing of materials. Demerit points are allocated when items are not returned
by the due date at a rate of two points per day (or part of a day), except
for items borrowed from the Reserve collection where demerit points accrue
at the rate of four per hour (or part of an hour).
Accumulation of sixty demerit points results in withdrawal of borrowing
privileges for fifteen days. The number of demerit points accumulated can
be checked by using the MyLibrary option on the catalogue.

Electronic Databases

A number of databases have been licenced for remote access by PIRSA and
SARDI staff who are registered users of the University of Adelaide Library.
See the links listed below.
NOTE: The majority of electronic resources available from the Library
are governed by license agreements which allow access only for the purposes

You can also search for the database title from the catalogue
(use the Limit drop down box to limit your title search to electronic resources),

A omprehensive compilation of essential science performance statistics
and science trends data derived from ISI’s databases. The chief
indicators of output, or productivity, are journal article publication
counts. For influence and impact measures, ESI employs both total citation

the latter shows weighted influence, also called impact. Data is limited

the psychological aspects of related fields such as medicine, psychiatry,

Scirus searches over 167 million science-specific Web pages, enabling

journals that other search engines miss.

Scopus
Scopus and Web of science are large databases covering
science and other subjects and allowing cited reference searching (finding
articles that have cited a given article). The 1980 onwards date range
of Web of science makes it the more useful database for cited reference
searching.
Scopus and Web of science can also be searched by topic
but they lack the depth of coverage of a biological database such as Biosis
previews.

VITIS-VEA
(Viticulture and enology abstracts) is an international English-language
literature database in the field of viticulture and enology. It contains
information from all over the world and corresponds to the "VITIS - Viticulture
and Enology Abstracts" (scientific reviews) and "Informationsdienst praxisbezogener
Literatur im Weinbau" (technical reviews) in print. The database covers
about 60% more citations than the printed versions and provides bibliographic
data, keywords and abstracts in English (or, in German, see below). Scientific
articles on the fields: morphology, physiology, and biochemistry of grapevines;
soil science; genetics and grapevine breeding; phytopathology and grapevine
protection; cellar techniques; economics of viticulture and enology; enology;
microbiology of wine. In addition, since 1994: Technical articles from
German language journals (abstracts in German).

Record
More than 1 million citations to the world wide literature on zoology,
