A Cosi evening... courtesy of Mozart
Thursday, 30 August 2007
Mozart's risque opera, Cosi fan Tutte, is coming to the University of Adelaide in September, thanks to a partnership between the Elder Conservatorium of Music and the Adelaide Centre for the Arts.
Three performances will take place in the Little Theatre at the University of Adelaide (off Victoria Drive) at 8.00pm on 13, 14 and 15 September.
In Cosi fan Tutte, two young soldiers, Ferrando and Guglielmo, put the fidelity of their lovers to the test. Disguised as strangers, the soldiers try to trick their sweethearts, Fiordiligi and Dorabella, into falling in love with them.
Will the women be faithful? What happens when the deception is uncovered? And can these couples ever find true love and happiness?
Cosi fan Tutte is Mozart's infamous exposition of love, fidelity and sex. Beethoven strongly disapproved of this opera on moral grounds, but there's no doubt that it is sheer, unadulterated (perhaps even adulterous) fun!
The production will feature six talented singers from the Vocal School at the Elder Conservatorium and an outstanding chamber orchestra under the baton of Musical Director, Carl Crossin.
The Stage Director is internationally renowned Juha Vanhakartano and technical assistance will be provided by Peter Riley and students from the Adelaide Centre for the Arts.
Tickets are $18 adult/concession and $10 student.
