UniBar set for an upgrade in 2008
Thursday, 20 December 2007
The University of Adelaide's food and drink commercial operations, including the UniBar, will be upgraded in 2008 to provide students with better services and facilities.
Under an agreement struck between the University and the Adelaide University Union (AUU), from next year all catering outlets on the North Terrace Campus will be run by the University. Catering operations at Waite and Roseworthy are already run by the University.
Operations on the North Terrace Campus include the UniBar, Mayo Refectory, UBC Café and Backstage Café.
"The AUU has handed these operations back to the University so it can focus on its core business of running student services, including student representation, activities, student media, sports, various clubs, as well as providing welfare, counselling and employment services for students," according to Dr Judy Szekeres, General Manager of Student Services.
"The University will be upgrading the catering outlets and will continue to provide live bands at the UniBar, as well as maintaining its current operating hours and trying to attract more student groups back on campus," Dr Szekeres said.
As part on the ongoing funding agreement with the AUU, the University will also set up a $100,000 sponsorship fund for student groups to access.
Two AUU students will be involved in a monthly consultation process with the University regarding catering operations on campus.
