With this week's deadline for the change of preferences rapidly approaching, potential new students hoping to study at university in 2008 will have their last chance to find out more about studying at the University of Adelaide at a special Information Evening on Thursday 3 January.

The deadline for the change of study preferences is this Friday, 4 January, at 11.59pm.

The University's Information Evening, to be held in Bonython Hall from 4.00pm-7.00pm on Thursday, will provide
one-to-one advice on issues such as:

  • choosing the right programs of study;
  • admissions;
  • finance;
  • scholarships;
  • accommodation;
  • careers; and
  • student life on campus.

A number of talks specific to some areas of study will also be held.

"The Information Evening is the perfect opportunity for those hoping to come to university in 2008 to make a final decision about their study plans, and to seek advice on important issues relevant to their study," says the General Manager of Student Services at the University of Adelaide, Dr Judy Szekeres.

"Choosing the right academic program and the right university is very important, which is why we're offering applicants and their families the chance to visit Bonython Hall and talk with us on Thursday night."

There are more opportunities to study at the University of Adelaide than ever before, with extra student places and a range of new degrees on offer. Adelaide has been awarded more new university places for domestic students than any other Australian university.

"Despite the increase in places, we recognise that there is strong competition for some degree programs, which is why we're providing more information to prospective students about alternative pathways into their first preference," Dr Szekeres says.

"Many students don't realise that there are often other ways of branching into their first preference by studying something else first."

A new website has been established to provide more information about alternative pathways into study: www.adelaide.edu.au/pathways
