Health Equity Reading Group

The Health Equity Reading Group is an initiative of Stretton Health Equity | Stretton Institute | University of Adelaide. It aims to promote discussion and debate within the University of Adelaide on a broad range of topic areas, with a particular focus on health, equity, wellbeing, and public policy. It aligns with the University of Adelaide’s Healthy Societies FAME strategy, especially Research Mission 1: Strengthening Social Structures and Equity.

Discussion invites critical analysis of the broad determinants of health, equity, and wellbeing in an historical context, including issues such as climate change and the environment, housing, employment and working conditions, and commercial and political determinants. The group is run on zoom, with two Stretton Health Equity staff each presenting a paper or report of their choice for 20 minutes, with 20 minutes then allocated for discussion.

Our next scheduled meeting is on April 29th between 12.00-1.00pm with Dr Toby Freeman presenting the article "Illustrating the impact of commercial determinants of health on the global COVID-19 pandemic: Thematic analysis of 16 country case studies" and Dr Julia Anaf presenting the paper "Civil Society Action against transnational corporations: implications for health promotion''. We look forward to you joining us.
