Aiming for success
Name: Rachel Iasiello Age: 20 Current Degree: Bachelor of Economics/Bachelor of Finance (double degree)
Why did you choose to study this degree? I particularly enjoyed and excelled at Business Studies and Economics throughout high school and have always had a 'love' for numbers. Economics and Finance are also very broad areas of study and there are certainly many options and pathways you can take upon graduating. A double degree also provides flexibility as to areas of specialisation and interest. Accomplishments and awards throughout your time at the University of Adelaide: - SA Water Scholarship based on Academic Merit
- Selected to appear in The Advertiser for Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia - 'Achiever' Award
- Economics Student Buddy in 2009
- Representative for Student Support Services at the University of Adelaide Open Day in 2009
What career options do you think your study will bring? Many! I'm hoping to gain more experience in areas of share trading, stockbroking, financial planning/wealth management and corporate advisory roles. Many large financial institutions such as the big four banks offer student internships interstate, something which would be a dream come true. Also, I'm considering taking honours in Corporate Finance in 2011 as I believe this will enable me to be more successful both interstate and overseas. Where do you see yourself in five years? I see myself working interstate or overseas in a well-regarded financial institution/ bank or in the public sector. Also, I would like to get more involved with financial advising and client interaction, in addition to researching financial markets and developing solutions to various problems facing society's economy. Through my study I have learnt that this all requires hard work and persistence and I am willing to 'keep at it' in order to aim high and achieve success!
