The defence industry is an important driver of Australia's national security and economic success. Contracts relating to defence procurement must address many unique issues and deal with the practical realities and challenges of procurement in a national security context. 

Our Professional Certificate in Defence Contracting Law is designed for Professionals (including lawyers and contract managers) who wish to up-skill on defence contracting law to take advantage of the many opportunities in the rapidly growing field to advance their knowledge and standing.

What will you do?

This 6-month (part-time)degree incorporates intensive seminar classes and a 12-week research project. You will:

  • examine the Commonwealth procurement framework as it relates to Defence contracts
  • analyse the Australian Standard Defence Contracting (ASDEFCON) suite of tendering and contracting templates
  • explore cardinal clauses included in Defence contracts
  • undertake a research dissertation on an area of defence contracting law.

Where could it take you?

You might work in procurement law for a defence contractor or for Defence itself. You might be a military lawyer. You could advise on government policy.

Applicants must hold: 


- a completed Bachelor degree, OR
- a completed Diploma (from either a University or TAFE), OR
- a recognised industry-based qualification, OR
- at least 2 years’ professional experience holding a responsible position in a field of practice or discipline.

A comprehensive CV should be uploaded as part of the SATAC application for those applicants without a completed qualification (Bachelor, Diploma or industry based).

Degree Structure

The Professional Certificate in Defence Contracting Law offers students a postgraduate coursework qualification in the specialised field of defence contracting law. Core courses in the program incorporate blended learning and face-to-face intensive seminar classes. The program includes a compulsory research project exploring an area of defence contracting law.
 
The Professional Certificate in Defence Contracting Law is not an AQF qualification type. It has a standard duration of 0.5 years part-time.

To qualify for the Professional Certificate in Defence Contracting  Law, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 6 units, comprising:

  •    Core courses to the value of 3 units
  •    Applied Research Project to the value of 3 units
