Watershed pre-show event

2 March, 5 to 7 pm
Cloisters, UniBar

In recognition of the University’s deep connection to this pivotal passage of legal and social history, we’re also holding a special pre-show event at our Cloisters and UniBar.

Conducted at the feet of a giant rainbow designed by the University of Adelaide School of Architecture and Built Environment, the event will include a number of addresses touching on Dr Duncan’s death and the law reform issues it gave rise to.

Most notably, Watershed writers Alana Valentine and Christos Tsiolkas, and director and Adelaide Festival Joint Artistic Director Neil Armfield, will be on-hand to discuss how they approached the delicate task of translating such sensitive issues for the stage.

Watershed LGBTQIA+ solidarity march

2 March, 7 to 7:20 pm
Cloisters to Dunstan Playhouse

At the conclusion of the pre-show event, all ticket holders will be invited to place a flower (supplied) at the base of the giant rainbow, before joining a short march of solidarity along the river to the Dunstan Playhouse to watch the show.

Watershed season opener

2 March, 7:30 pm
Dunstan Playhouse

Our University of Adelaide community has the very special opportunity to attend a season-opening performance of the 2022 Adelaide Festival oratorio Watershed.

This world-premiere show recalls an event of enormous historical significance not just for our University, but for gay rights throughout Australia: the 1972 killing of Adelaide Law School professor Dr George Ian Ogilvie Duncan.

A limited number of generously discounted tickets are now available for this special 2 March performance on a strictly first-come-first-served basis:

  • $19 University of Adelaide students
  • $34 University of Adelaide staff.
