Sports Engineering
This major prepares you to enter and excel in the rapidly-growing international sports engineering field. It focuses on applying mechanical engineering skills to the design and manufacture of sports equipment and apparel, rehabilitation and exercise equipment, and sports facilities.
In addition to topics related to design and engineering science fundamentals, you’ll also undertake studies in physiology, anatomy, biomechanics and sports materials.
The need for sports engineers is driven by a shortage of people with multidisciplinary skills to develop new technologies for elite sports. As a sports engineer you may work with athletes, sporting teams, manufacturers and/or sports institutes to analyse sporting performance and exploit every possible gain. You will also be well placed to manage multidisciplinary teams of scientists, engineers and physiologists working in the sports industry.
