Entrepreneurs: the University of Adelaide wants you!

Entrants are being sought for an innovative business competition run jointly by the University of Adelaide and Hewlett-Packard Australia.

The Entrepreneurs' Challenge (or echallenge) aims to foster the successful development of new ideas into investment-ready, start-up companies.

Teams of up to six students - all including at least one University of Adelaide student - have until October to develop a business plan for a new, previously unfunded concept. Teams that make the semi-final stage are offered an experienced businessperson as mentor, and the final plans are judged by a panel of high-profile business executives.

An information session for this year's competition is being held tomorrow (Friday, April 28) at 1.10pm in Room LG28 in the Napier Building on the University's North Terrace campus.

Meanwhile, the official corporate launch of the event will take place on Wednesday, May 10 on the rooftop of the new Advertiser building.

The echallenge is run by the University's Education Centre for Innovation and Commercialisation.

"The echallenge stimulates innovation and entrepreneurship, and creates genuine commercial prospects for the benefit of South Australia - and most importantly, it works," ECIC Acting Director Antonio Dottore says.

"As an example, 2004 echallenge runner-up Microbric has gone on to build a real business launching the hugely successful I-bot. Echallenge helps build entrepreneurial culture and is an effective way of creating employment opportunities and stimulating the business community."
