Australia Day honours for University community

Members of the University of Adelaide community are among the Australians recognised in this year’s Australia Day honours.

They include Clinical and Adjunct Professor John Turnidge, Emeritus Professor Grant Townsend, Visiting Research Fellow Dr Jenny Rosevear and Adjunct and Affiliate Professors Charlotte de Crespigny, David Coventry, Sharad Kumar and Bob Vink.

Professor John Turnidge, AO (Clinical Professor in Medical Sciences and Adjunct Professor in the School of Biological Sciences) has become an Officer in the General Division of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to medicine as an infectious disease physician and microbiologist, particularly to the advancement of health policy in the area of antimicrobial resistance, and to professional medical organisations.

Professor David Coventry, AO (Adjunct Professor in the School of Agriculture, Food and Wine) has also been awarded the AO for distinguished service to primary industry, particularly to sustainable agricultural production, as an academic and researcher, and through the facilitation of training programs and scholarships in developing countries.

Those who have been made members of the General Division of the Order of Australia (AM) include:

Professor Charlotte de Crespigny, AM (Adjunct Professor in Adelaide Nursing School) for
significant service to nursing, and to nurse education, particularly in the field of drug and alcohol care, and to Indigenous health projects.

Emeritus Professor Grant Townsend, AM (Emeritus Professor of Dental Science with Adelaide Dental School) for significant service to dentistry in the field of craniofacial biology, and to dental education through research, teaching and mentoring roles.

Dr Jenny Rosevear (Visiting Research Fellow in the Elder Conservatorium of Music) for significant service to music education in South Australia, particularly through curriculum development at the tertiary and secondary levels.

Professor Sharad Kumar (Affiliate Professor with Adelaide Medical School) for significant service to medical research in the field of cancer and cell biology, as a scientist and author, to medical education, and as a mentor.

Professor Bob Vink (Adjunct Professor in Adelaide Medical School) for significant service to medicine, particularly in the field of neurotrauma, as a researcher, author, educator and advocate, and to the community.
