Adelaide Symphony Orchestra with Elizabeth Layton

Dr Elizabeth Layton

In Haydn’s concerto, the music sparkles as soon as it begins. It’s like a walk in the park on a sunny day, with some scenic stops along the way – including the violin’s gentle song above the orchestra at one moment, and imitating bagpipes at the next. Suk’s Serenade for strings is suffused with a delightfully relaxed atmosphere from the first bar, and its finale opens so genially it almost suggests the sound of laughter.
