Joy of live music to be streamed for all
The University of Adelaide’s Elder Conservatorium will this Friday live stream pianists Konstantin Shamray and Michael Ierace performing in Elder Hall, as part of a revised concert series adjusted due to new Coronavirus restrictions.
The program will consist of Stravinsky's Petrushka and selections from Dvořák's Slavonic Dances. Originally planned as a piano four hands performance, the artists will now perform as a piano duo on two separate pianos.
“The ability to live stream means we can now share these beautiful pieces of music around the world.”Martin Victory, Manager of the Concert Series & Elder Hall, Elder Conservatorium of Music
Martin Victory, Manager of the Concert Series & Elder Hall at the Elder Conservatorium of Music, says while it’s unfortunate they are not able to host the popular Lunchtime Concert Series for an audience as planned, live streaming will allow more people to tune in.
“We have received a great deal of support and encouragement over the past two weeks, and we dearly thank our patrons for their patience and understanding with our revised program,” Mr Victory said.
“The ability to live stream means we can now share these beautiful pieces of music around the world.
“With little in the way of good news lately, we are pleased to be doing something that we hope will bring joy to those who tune in.
"Konstantin and Michael are both outstanding pianists. As solo artists they've performed all over the world, winning fans on every continent. But we have the privilege of them being staff members at The University of Adelaide. They both contribute so much to the community and the local arts scene.
“We hope to create additional live streams in the weeks to come, and we’ll keep our Facebook page up to date with the latest information.”
The live stream is completely free – no payment or special logins are required – and there is no limit to the number of people that can tune in.
The performance begins at 1.10 pm Friday 3 April, with the stream accessible from 12.45 pm. There are two ways to tune in; via the Concert Series webpage or on the Elder Conservatorium’s Facebook page.
For those unable to view the live performance on Friday, the recordings will be available online following the conclusion of the stream.
