Business leader appointed to University Council

Ken Williams

Mr Kenneth Williams

The University of Adelaide’s Council has today announced the appointment of a new Council member, a leader in the finance and business sector.

Kenneth Williams has 30 years’ experience in corporate finance. A Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, he is currently the Independent Chair of Statewide Super, a Non-Executive Director of Archer Materials Ltd, a Director of the Lifetime Support Authority (LSA) and Chair of the Finance & Investment Committee of the LSA.

Mr Williams has held senior finance executive roles with Normandy Mining Limited, Qantas Airways Limited and Renison Goldfields Limited, among other companies.

Specialising in treasury and financial risk management, his directorship experience has spanned both large and small listed and private companies, not-for-profit organisations, and superannuation funds.

He is a graduate of the University of Western Australia (Bachelor of Economics (Hons)) and Macquarie University (Masters in Applied Finance).

Mr Williams was appointed to the University’s Council following a recommendation from the Council Selection Committee. His appointment fills a place on Council left by the appointment of the Hon. Catherine Branson AC QC to the position of Chancellor.

“We are grateful to have Ken Williams join us on Council. His depth of experience in areas such as finance and risk, and his business acumen, will be of great benefit to the University and to the broader community,” Chancellor Branson said.

Mr Williams said: “It is pleasing to join the University of Adelaide Council at an important time for the institution.

“The University’s highly regarded education and research will be critical in helping South Australia to emerge stronger from the COVID-19 pandemic. I hope to play my own role, by helping the University as it also emerges from its financial challenges over the coming years.”

Mr Williams has been appointed to Council for a period of two years. He will also serve on the Council’s Finance and Infrastructure Committee.
