New Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement) to pursue partnerships and revenue
The University of Adelaide today announced it has appointed Dr Jessica Gallagher to the new role of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement).
Dr Gallagher is currently Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement and Entrepreneurship) at the University of Queensland. She will commence in her role at the University of Adelaide on 22 November.
Her new position at the University of Adelaide will combine the portfolios of Marketing and Recruitment, the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor (International), and External Relations.
Dr Gallagher will oversee strategy and delivery of the University’s key services in domestic and international student recruitment, global engagement, alumni relations and philanthropy, and industry and government partnerships, among many others.
“I am delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Jessica Gallagher to my senior leadership team at the University of Adelaide,” says the University’s Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Peter Høj AC.
“Dr Gallagher is a highly skilled strategic thinker with outstanding experience and achievements in global engagement, stakeholder management and partnerships, entrepreneurship, and managing change.
“Her work and that of her teams will be critical to the future success of the University of Adelaide, creating opportunities, strengthening partnerships and generating new revenue, all with the same goal: to support our University’s outstanding teaching and learning and our world-class research.”
Previously at UQ, Dr Gallagher was Director of the UQ Advantage Office, Head of Global Engagement, Director of Global Engagement and Entrepreneurship, and now PVC Global Engagement and Entrepreneurship, which has included responsibility for domestic and international student recruitment.
With a PhD in Comparative Cultural Studies, Dr Gallagher is also currently an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in UQ’s School of Languages and Cultures, where she has taught for almost a decade.
“I am very excited to join this new role and help shape the future direction of the University of Adelaide, which is such an important institution for the community and for industry in South Australia,” Dr Gallagher says.
“One of the key reasons I sought to take on this role is the knowledge that there are great things happening in South Australia right now – such as the opportunities being created through the Lot Fourteen innovation precinct – and that the University of Adelaide is a key partner in the State’s future success.
“In my role, I hope to become the ‘eyes and ears’ for our diverse range of stakeholders, to understand their needs and expectations, and to build strong partnerships that enable the University to enrich the communities it serves.
“It will also be a privilege to work again with Peter Høj, who is an outstanding leader. I know there are challenges ahead for the university sector, but I look forward to being part of the leadership team that is dedicated to creating the best possible opportunities for the University of Adelaide, its students and staff, and for the State,” Dr Gallagher says.
