Professor Jose Polo awarded 2022 ANZSCDB President's Medal
Congratulations to Professor Jose Polo who has been awarded the 2022 ANZSCDB President's Medal for his outstanding record of achievement in the fields of stem cell and developmental biology.
In announcing Professor Polo's award, the ANZSCDB have issued the following statement: "The Society is incredibly proud to award the 2022 ANZSCDB President’s Medal to Professor Jose Polo. Jose is internationally recognised for groundbreaking discoveries on the transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms that govern cell identity, in particular pluripotency and the reprogramming of somatic cells into induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC). Polo and team have consistently reported breakthrough findings in these fields, with recent discoveries in generating induced trophoblast stem cells, and recreating the early stages of human development with an iPSC-derived in vitro model of the human blastocyst (iBlastoids). Jose has recently been recruited to a prominent leadership role as founding Director of the Adelaide Centre for Epigenetics at the University of Adelaide. The achievements of Jose and his team are at the forefront of research on stem cells and early human development and an inspiration to our Society."
