Steve Larkin joins ARC Indigenous Forum

Professor Steve Larkin, Pro Vice-Chancellor – Indigenous Engagement, has been appointed as a member of the ARC Indigenous Forum. The forum is made up of a cross-section of eminent Indigenous members with significant experience in research, as well as engagement with end-users of research.

I’ve always been fascinated with science and especially how the human body works. My mum trained to be a nurse, so in primary school when everyone was reading Winnie the Pooh books, I was instead flipping through her Grey’s Anatomy textbook!

Chief Information Officer message

Recently there has been an increase in phishing attacks targeting the University of Adelaide. Phishing is a cybercrime where attackers impersonate trusted sources, including colleagues or vendors, to obtain sensitive information through deceptive emails. These emails may prompt for personal information, urging immediate action, or encourage opening suspicious files and links.

Research and Research Training Domain September Virtual Town Hall

We invite all staff to the upcoming Research and Research Training Domain virtual town hall via Zoom on Friday 13 September from 1.302.30 pm. This event is open to all staff who are interested in staying informed on key research activities leading up to our transition to the new Adelaide University. We will share updates on core areas of focus and provide you with an opportunity to ask questions in an open Q&A.

AU Transition Council update

The Adelaide University held its sixth formal Transition Council meeting on 23 August 2024, which was attended by Mr Jim McDowell, a newly appointed member of the Council. This was following the resignation of Mr Andrew Pridham, to whom the Chancellor expressed appreciation for his valuable contribution towards the establishment and transition to Adelaide University.

Register for Sports Week and VC Cup

Adelaide University Sport and Fitness is set to host Sports Week and the 16th Annual Vice-Chancellor’s Cup from October 14–18 on North Terrace Campus. This year’s event is filled with dynamic sports and activities and culminates with the VC Cup. Teams of four (2 staff and 2 students - 1 male and 1 female each) are required from each Faculty/Division and will compete in various sports and challenges. 2025 New Colombo Plan Mobility Program Round Open

Applications are now open for academic and professional staff to apply for New Colombo Plan Mobility Program funding to support Australian undergraduate students’ participation in study, language training, internships, practicums and research in the Indo-Pacific region. Support for Students Policy

In January this year the University implemented a new Support for Students Policy, outlining how we provide academic and personal support to students. As a result, other policies that support our students have been reviewed this year, including Academic Progress by Course Work Students, and MACA. The Support for Students Policy is required to be reviewed annually. Feedback is being sought on the current policy. Please email epc@adelaide.edu.au by Friday 20 September.

Student Travel Risk Policy and Student Health Assessment and Leave Policy

The Student Travel Risk Policy and the Student Health Assessment and Leave Policy have been approved to be reaffirmed until 31 December 2025, as both policies required only minor amendments, effective immediately. The change in delegation authority for approving student high risk travel to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (External Engagement) resulted in the revised policy being endorsed at the VCE 4/24-31 July 2024 meeting. The Vice-Chancellor and President approved the policy on 13 August 2024. The Student Health Assessment and Leave Policy only required editorial changes and as such, was approved by the Policy Custodian, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Academic) on 31 July 2024.

Information Management and Governance

The revised Information Management and Governance Policy was approved by the Vice-Chancellor and President on 5 August 2024. Concurrently approved is a new Information Management and Governance Framework. Together they articulate a consistent enterprise-wide approach guided by a key set of information principles, best-practice standards, and legal and regulatory obligations.
