How can museums engage with the public?

SAM

On 17 August 2022, we were joined by Ms Justine van Mourik (South Australian Museum), Ms Alison Kershaw (Inspiring South Australia) and Mr Michael Harvey (Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium) for a panel discussion on public engagement in the museum sector.

During the seminar, which was chaired by Prof Rachel Ankeny, we heard from each of our speakers about various efforts being made to engage with diverse audiences as well as the importance of communicating science to the public. In particular, the discussion revolved around the importance of fun, the social dimension of engagement and the benefits of public participation in science.

A recording of the seminar can be found here.
