The Campus is Your Canvas! is a unique opportunity for students to showcase their talent, gain public recognition, add a large-scale project to their portfolio and create a lasting impact on campus for future students.
The brief
You are encouraged to bring your creative vision to life with a painted mural that reflects your personal style, experiences, or anything that inspires you. The subject matter is up to you, but please ensure your artwork promotes positivity, inclusivity, and respect for all. The mural should be a space for artistic expression that brings the campus community together. Students from every discipline are invited to enter the competition.
How to enter
Submit a high-resolution sketch of your mural design, this can be digital, or hand-drawn.
Prize
The winner will receive a $1000 Visa Gift Card payable upon completion of the mural.
Timeline
The mural needs to be complete by Sunday 27 July 2025 at the end of semester mid-year break.
How the winner will be chosen
Entries will be judged by a panel of university staff to create a shortlist of 3 possible winners. The shortlist will be promoted to students on Instagram uoa.oncampus with a poll for voting.
Mural size and location
The artwork space is 5 m wide x 2.2 m high and will be in the Hub Eastern Courtyard, by the Student Kitchen.
Materials
Materials required by the winner to successfully complete the mural will be paid for and supplied by the university. Marine ply painted with a primer will be fixed to the wall for the winner to paint on.
The winner will be required to work with the university’s Infrastructure team to create a budget and shopping list. Materials will be stored in a secure location when the mural is not being worked on.
Access to the mural
The mural can be accessed by the winner from 7 am – 7 pm during weekdays. If weekend work is required this can be arranged with Security. Recording the painting of the mural will take place on specific days and times to create a timelapse video.
Who will support the winner?
The university point of contact for the winner will be a member of the Infrastructure team. The DASE Communications team, Jo and Olivia, will also contact the winner for promotional purposes to the student community and to arrange the timelapse video.
