User access

Users with Admin access to a site are able to maintain other users access to that site.

When in the Site Information page for a site, the submenu for that site is shown, including the User Access menu option. When this option is selected, a page showing all users' access to the site is displayed. This includes a table of all users, showing their LDAP user ID, full name and the access they have to the site. Options include the following:

  • R – read, allowing the user to view pages on the site
  • W – write, allowing the user to make changes to pages on the site, including generating navigation, creating new pages and deleting pages.
  • U – upload, allowing the user to upload changes made on the development server to the live web servers
  • X– admin, allowing users maintain other users access to the site

Access can be non-propogating, meaning that it applies only to the current site, or propagating, meaning that the rights granted apply to the current site and all of its subsites.

Click on a user's name to modify their access to the site or delete their access from the site. To grant a new user access to the site, select the Add submenu option from the navigation menu. In most instances, users are recognised within the system by their LDAP user ID. In instances where access is required for a non-university staff member, special access can be granted. Contact the Online Media Unit if this is required.

For more information on the access that users can be granted, view the online help available on this page, by clicking on help in the top right corner of the window, below the login information.
