The processThe Online Media Unit has a process that we go through to create a new web site or redevelop an existing site for Faculties, Departments, Schools or areas within the University of Adelaide. The stages we undertake have been designed to ensure that all information is considered, approved and developed in a way that means you, the client, approves each stage. This means we can make sure all needs are met and means that we don't have to go back to fix things that may have been left out in early stages. Once you have decided to either build or redevelop your site with the Online Media Unit, we will: Hold an initial meeting. At this meeting, your needs for a web site are considered and we determine the scope of the web site. We discuss possible audiences and their need for online information. We discuss responsibilities for approving, supplying, updating and maintaining information. Provide a quote. You will be provided with a detailed quote, outlining the time and cost requirements of the project. The costs are broken down into the project's individual stages. Take a briefing from you. In this discussion, we discuss the scope of the site in finer detail. We identify content needs (to assist you collect your content and us to design your site map) and gather information to help our designers provide relevant images for your site. Collection of content by client. At this stage, your responsibility is to collect relevant content for the site. We have found that the most efficient way is for our journalists to work with content you have supplied. We can edit it into shape, but we can't make it up! Site map and visual development. Once content is collected, we design both the structure of the site (in the form of a schematic site map) and develop the preliminary visuals for the site. Sign off. These designs are forwarded to you for approval. Build site. Once we receive approval, we go ahead and build the site and populate it with your content, liaising with you with any content questions. Sign off. Once your beta site is ready, you can view it on our development server. We then make any required minor changes. Upload. The site is then uploaded to the main web server. Handover. Once the site is live, it moves to maintenance phase. If you are maintaining your site, it is handed over to you. We provide training and further maintenance support through our trainer. She is available to train your staff person to maintain and update the site as discussed in the early stages of the project.
