Major Scholarship and Admission Round Closes 31 October 2018

Applications for admission and scholarship for Masters by Research and PhD programs commencing in the first half of 2019 are open from 1 September to 31 October 2018.

All applications for the Major Round for domestic applicants must be submitted through the University's HDR online application system.

APR Internship Opportunities

APR Internships provide an invaluable opportunity for research students to utilise their technical skills and knowledge to help industry address challenges they face. APR.Intern has announced the following new internship opportunities:

Wakefield Regional Council is offering a 3-month internship opportunity in Balaklava, SA (Location Negotiable). Project Title: Understanding Childcare Needs in the Wakefield Regional Council Area. This internship will focus on research to identify the need for social/community services and to explore different approaches to how these services can be provided within regional settings. Legatus Group is offering a 6-month internship opportunity in Clare, SA. Project Title: Exploring the Viability of a Mid North Sustainability Hub. Defence Science and Technology Group (DST) is offering multiple opportunities for 3-6 month internships in various locations. The DST Group is the Australian Government’s lead agency responsible for applying science and technology to safeguard Australia and its national interests. As one of Australia’s largest employers of scientists and engineers, DST deliver expert, impartial advice and innovative solutions for Defence and national security. Wiring Solutions Plus is offering a 3 month internship in Underdale, Adelaide SA. Project Title: A.I/Machine Learning Techniques to Enhance Customer Experience. Wiring Solutions Plus is seeking to automate their request for quotation systems via the use of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning approaches. Shoal Engineering is offering a 5 month internship in Adelaide, SA or Canberra, ACT. Project Title: Research the Application of Natural Language Processing to Determine the Likelihood of Winning Bid Submissions. This research aims to inform the process of assessing likely win/loss results of bid submission to improve company efficiency. Hans-Jürgen and Marianne Ohff Research Grants

These grants have been established by Hans-Jürgen and Marianne Ohff to support postgraduate research students to undertake study and/or fieldwork at a German-speaking university or research institution.

Students enrolled in postgraduate research programs at the University of Adelaide and who have had their candidature confirmed, are eligible to apply for Grants. Activities funded by the Grant may include:

        Research field work or a short study program
        Internships and related industry placements
        Conference presentations and attendance

Selection will be made on the basis of academic merit, purpose of requested Grant, essential nature of the travel to the scholar's research project, expected outcomes, reason for choosing particular University or institution, and how the Grant would strengthen links between the host institution and University of Adelaide.  Rules and the application form can be found on the Scholarships website.

Applications close on 2 November 2018.  Applicants for this round of grants must intend to travel during the first half of 2019.  Any enquires regarding the grants can be directed to the Scholarships Team.

Joanna Briggs Institute Short Courses in 2019

The Joanna Briggs Institute offers a wide range of research and education services for health and educational organisations and for clinicians, managers, educators, academics and students from the fields of nursing, allied health, medicine, information science and the health sciences. Integrated Bridging Program-Research (IBP-R) Update

We are coming up to end of our second program for the year and so it is a particularly busy time. Students are preparing for their Practice Oral Presentations and working on their Full Draft Research Proposals. Consultations are underway and we are reading proposals across an interesting range of thesis topics. We are also finding that more and more students are involved in exploring cross-disciplinary topics. A further trend we have noted is that many students are undertaking their theses by journal article publications, or a combination of the conventional plus journal article, rather than the traditional thesis format. Obviously this means our students need to understand a number of new features connected to this type of writing and so we have begun to  integrate more of these aspect into our program.

Free and Confidential Disability Service

As a Postgraduate Student you are also eligible for assistance from the Disability Service if you have a disability or ongoing medical condition. Information about the nature of your disability is not disclosed – information obtained from you about the functional impact of the disability is shared with academic staff solely for the purpose of assisting you with your studies.
