Adelaide Graduate Centre Drop-In Session at Waite

Professor John Williams, Dean of Graduate Studies, and the Adelaide Graduate Centre Team will be at Waite Campus on Thursday 26 April 2018.

The Dean will host a Drop-in Session for students currently enrolled in a Bachelor or Honours Degree, to learn more about study options for Higher Degrees by Research, as well as scholarship opportunities.  Current HDR students are also invited to come and meet the team to discuss any issues regarding their candidature or scholarship.

Staff are most welcome.

Mid-Year Round - Domestic Applicants - Research Admission and Scholarships

The Mid-Year Round makes available a limited number of research scholarships opportunities. All applicants will be considered for every scholarship made available in the round for which they are eligible.

Open: 9 April - 31 May

    Applicants must commence candidature between 1 July and 30 November of the year of application to be eligible for scholarship
    Research Training Program (RTP) and University Divisional Scholarships available
    Applicants of the previous Major Round are not eligible to apply
    The online application form is made available during the specified period only
    Outcomes expected by the end of July

National Industry Research Internship Program – APR.Intern

Australian Postgraduate Research (APR), formally AMSIIntern, is the only national all sector – all discipline internship program placing PhD students into industry.

A not-for-profit program, APR.Intern is working at the nexus between industry and academia, connecting PhD students, and their academic mentors, with industry partners through 3-5 month, tightly focused research projects. Supported by the Australian Government, a new rebate for industry will assist in the placement of 1400 PhD students into Australian businesses by 2020.

The APR.Intern program aims to support industry-based training of PhD research students in all Australian universities, to increase employability and broaden business and university collaborations. The program is focused on equity, prioritising the placement of domestic citizens, women, regional, Indigenous and disadvantaged PhD students into internships. Along with their research skills, our PhD students bring perseverance, tenacity and logic to a project.

Academic mentors play a vital role in the success of each internship. Mentors provide guidance and steer the PhD student towards the project’s research goals. When teamed with a PhD student, the business can leverage from a bigger pool of research expertise. Through direct engagement with the business, academic mentors can develop and strengthen relationships for future industry partnerships.

CaRST Online

We are pleased to announce that CaRST Online will be available for student use from 23rd April 2018. CaRST Online will make it easier for students to find and book CaRST courses and record activities.

Key benefits for students:

    Improved searching functionality to find, book and record HDR activities
    Complete record of all your CaRST activities
    Activities booked using CaRST Online will be automatically added to your record
    Ability to add external and experiential activities to your record
    Upload evidence to support your CaRST records
    Dashboard summary of total CaRST hours and hours by domain

Mid-year we will be implementing the development planning functionality to achieve a centralised system for all CaRST program requirements.  More information will be provided closer to the time.

Hans-Jurgen and Marianne Ohff Research Grants

These grants have been established by Hans-Jürgen & Marianne Ohff to support postgraduate research students to undertake study and/or fieldwork at a German-speaking university or research institution.

Students enrolled in postgraduate research programs at the University of Adelaide and who have had their candidature confirmed, are eligible to apply for Grants to undertake study and/or fieldwork at a German-speaking university or research institution. Activities funded by the Grant may include:

        Research field work or a short study program
        Internships and related industry placements
        Conference presentations and attendance

Selection will be made on the basis of academic merit, purpose of requested Grant, essential nature of the travel to the scholar's research project, expected outcomes, reason for choosing particular University or institution, and how the Grant would strengthen links between the host institution and University of Adelaide.  Rules and the application form can be viewed on the Research Scholarships Website.

Applications close on 31 May 2018.  Any enquires regarding the grants can be emailed to the Scholarships Office.

Three Minute Thesis – Registrations Now Open

Can you sell your thesis in just 3 minutes? Registrations are now open for the Three Minute Thesis competition! The 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) is a great way to develop your communication skills and profile your research. It's a competition that challenges Higher Degree by Research students to explain their research project to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes. APR Internship with Woodside Energy

Woodside’s Data Science team is seeking an intern to develop valuable insights from our extensive health and safety (H&S) records through the application of advanced and novel data science techniques. The intern will work closely with the Data science team and the H&S subject matter experts to understand the data from various data sources, identify and analyse leading indicators to safety events, and develop high value outcomes with actionable insights.

Green Talents – International Forum for High Potentials in Sustainable Development

Green Talents is an initiative from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) to promote the international exchange of innovative green ideas. Selected by a jury of German experts the award winners are granted unique access to the country’s research elite.

The submission period of this year’s Green Talents Competition ends on 23 May 2018, 2 p.m. CEST.  On the Green Talents website you can additionally find press releases in English and this year’s trailer video.

The call is open to ALL disciplines. Please refer to the Science Forum 2018 pages for detailed information on the hot spots the awardees are going to visit in October 2018. More information about the jury can be found on the Green Talents jury website.

The requirements for the Green Talents Competition are:

  • Enrolment in a master’s or PhD programme or a degree (master’s/PhD) completed no more than three years before the end of the application process
  • Strong focus on sustainable development and an interdisciplinary approach
  • Proven excellent command of English
  • Significantly above-average grades
  • Not a German citizen nor a resident of Germany (individuals therefore not eligible to apply: German passport holders as well as anyone living in Germany at the time of application even if the residence is temporary)

Free, Independent and Confidential Counselling Service

Did you know that as a Postgraduate Student you are entitled to access counselling services provided to students at The University of Adelaide. To find out more information visit the Counselling Centre website.

Free and Confidential Disability Service

As a Postgraduate Student you are also eligible for assistance from the Disability Service if you have a disability or ongoing medical condition. Information about the nature of your disability is not disclosed – information obtained from you about the functional impact of the disability is shared with academic staff solely for the purpose of assisting you with your studies. Details relating to the Disability Service and the on line registration process can be found on the Disability website.
