Our degrees respond to industry and community needs and will set you up for success in your future career. Our campuses are home to dedicated laboratory and simulation spaces including anatomy, chemistry and biology labs, simulated hospital wards, commercial kitchens, research-aligned pharmacy labs, Mass Spectrometry & Proteomics facility,

 clinical trial facilities, Histology services and more. We’re also home to the Adelaide Health Simulation – the most technologically advanced medical simulation facility in Australasia. 

Practise your skills in these spaces under the supervision of expert clinical staff including clinicians, researchers and academics nationally and internationally renowned in their fields. 

Real-world placements

Many of our health degrees include professional, clinical and field placements across metropolitan, regional and rural environments. You’ll get valuable experience within a breadth of diverse workplace environments while still studying, ensuring you graduate as an informed health practitioner.

Our research centres 

We have a broad range of research institutes, centres and concentrations across our six schools. 

We address issues spanning individual to society level, and tackle challenges ranging from Australia’s leading causes of ill health through to improving the health system itself. Our research focuses include cancer, heart health, improved nutrition and medicine usage, reproductive health, genetics and population health, and data driven analysis.

PARC Clinical Research

PARC Clinical Research is a high acuity clinical trials unit in the Royal Adelaide Hospital and meets the continuing demand for high quality clinical research infrastructure in South Australia, builds research capacity, and provides ongoing opportunities for healthcare innovation and collaboration.

Body Donation Program

Our scope

We work with organisations of all sizes to drive precise outcomes. Our expertise in key health areas ensures alignment with industry and community demands across areas including but not limited to medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, allied health, nursing and midwifery, biomedicine, engineering, computer science, biology, psychology, public health, digital health, rehabilitation, preventative health, implementation science, nutrition, biophysics and epidemiology.

Community care

We ensure everyday people can access our health services and innovations. We engage with local communities through student-led health services, research project and clinical trial participation that ensures our communities are informing, taking part in and benefitting from our health research.

Adelaide University operates a number of clinics that are open to the general public, providing professional and cost-effective services (in some cases free) in the areas of Allied Health, Psychology, Medical and Oral Health. Services are delivered by students and supervised by highly qualified and experienced health professionals. We also offer services led by qualified and registered professionals.

Adelaide Health Simulation

Adelaide Health Simulation (AHS) is the only healthcare simulation facility in Australia holding dual accreditation from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, recognised internationally for teaching, education, and research.

Located within Adelaide University's Adelaide Health and Medical Sciences building, AHS is a multi-floor, purpose-built centre training health professions students, clinicians, and healthcare organisations across the full arc of care — from birth through to end of life. Clinical simulation suites mirror real hospital environments, with functioning oxygen and suction systems, nurse call, and an integrated electronic medical record and equipment aligned to local health networks. Twenty-four dedicated assessment rooms provide full audiovisual capture for regulatory-level clinical assessment.

AHS runs a world-leading simulated patient program, delivered in partnership with the State Theatre Company of South Australia - a partnership unique in Australian clinical education.

A professor-led team of academics, simulation educators, and simulation technicians supports clinical education, professional development, Higher Degree by Research programs including PhDs, and active international collaborations - advancing the evidence base for simulation in healthcare worldwide.

Histology Services

Our services include tissue preparation, embedding, sectioning, slide mounting, routine and special staining including Immunohistochemistry.

We provide quotes for projects when grant applications are being prepared. We also have experts in different fields that can provide specialised, individual advice on project planning and development. Their services can also include analysis and reporting of results.

Our services are ideally suited for research staff and postgraduate research students. We offer rapid turnaround times and no job is too big or too small.

Equipment access

Access to our histological equipment is available to University honours and postgraduate students and staff at moderate rates. Users must undergo an induction according to our safe operating procedures.

Equipment available includes:

  • Paraffin wax processor
  • Paraffin wax embedder
  • Rotary Microtome
  • Cryostat
  • H&E staining set up.

Mass Spectrometry & Proteomics (MSP)

We provide expertise for Tissue Mass Spectrometry Imaging and proteomic analyses. MSP is a Proteomics Node for Bioplatforms Australia in South Australia, established under the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS).

We offer a wide range of analytical services for industry and academia such as protein identification, quantitative proteomics, phosphoproteomics and glycomics. In addition, we are experts in method development and have established mass spectrometry assays for specific analytes such as patulin in apple juice, bromoform in seaweed (a compound known to reduce methane production) and PFAS (the ‘forever chemicals’) in solid and fluid samples.

We also have a range of instrumentation available for hire.
