Alumna 'takes a seat' for mother in Elder Hall refurbishment
Catherine Galvin (Bachelor of Engineering Honours, 1986) discovered the Elder Hall ‘Take a Seat’ refurbishment in the Spring 2022 edition of lumen. She was intrigued by the opportunity to reserve a seat and help refurbish the iconic Elder Hall, a place where the wonder of music has been celebrated for more than a century.

EQ just as important as IQ engineer shares
Damian Connelly is an engineering alumni based in Perth, Western Australia. For the past 26 years he has worked as a consulting metallurgist for top mining, banking and engineering companies. Damian graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science in 1972 and recently returned to campus in 2022 to celebrate his Golden Jubilee, 50 years since the conferral of his degree.

Sarah Bartolo is an actor, singer and writer based in Melbourne. After completing her Bachelor of Arts in 2007, Sarah moved overseas to pursue her acting career and spent four years in New York and then moved back to Melbourne in 2020 during the pandemic.

Dr Mercy Mwangangi
Recipient of the Distinguished International Alumni Award 2022, Dr Mercy Mwangangi is a medical practitioner, health economist and policy analyst who fundamentally believes in the crucial role public health plays in Kenya’s economic and social development. Dr Mwangani is the Chief Administrative Secretary of Kenya’s Ministry for Health and became the face of the nation’s COVID-19 pandemic response at just 32 years old.

Recipient of Distinguished Alumni Award 2022, Professor John McNeil AO is a tenured public health researcher specialising in epidemiology and clinical pharmacology. His contributions to medical research have changed how we think about chronic disease, preventative health and healthcare quality.
