Confidentiality and Privacy
Our staff are either psychologists eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner’s Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or Social Workers eligible for registration with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
Registration requires that staff adhere to the professional codes of conduct for these Associations.
Our counsellors will not discuss your personal information or attendance details with anyone outside of Counselling Support , unless you have given us your permission. The only exceptions are when:
- we have a reasonable belief that there is a risk to your health or safety or that of another person
- there is a legal requirement to do so and specifically if you are under 18 years of age
- it is necessary for the University to obtain legal advice
Counsellors are required to keep records of each counselling session for the purposes of monitoring treatment progression. Your counselling file is kept on a secure web based platform and details are not kept on any central University system. Only Counsellors within Counselling Support can access your file. We are required under State Government legislation to keep written records for 15 years or, if you were under 18 at the last date of contact, the file must be kept until you are 25 years of age.
Further detail can be found in our confidentiality and privacy statement .
