Dance Nation

State Theatre Company is organising a new season of theatre for 2020!

Rehearsals are underway for our first show Dance Nation by Clare Barron, and it is already looking fierce. A co-production with Belvoir Theatre in Sydney, Dance Nation will be brought to life at the Scott Theatre as part of this year’s Adelaide Festival.

Somewhere in America, an army of teenage competitive dancers is plotting world domination. One routine at a time.

As the national title looms and the dancers fight it out for the lead role, reality and fantasy blur in this award-winning pageant of ferocious girl power.

Part-Dance Moms, part-Hunger GamesDance Nation is a crushingly funny satire of ambition. The New York Times says it “conjures the passionate ambivalence of early adolescence with such being-there sharpness and poignancy that you’re not sure whether to cringe, cry or roar with happiness. Blazingly original and unsettlingly familiar.”

Starring Tara Morice (Strictly Ballroom), Dance Nation will blow your sequins off.

Dance Nation will offer two performances with Audio Description for audience members who are vision impaired. These performances will be on:

  • Monday the 2nd of March at 8pm, with a preshow tactile tour at 7pm, and
  • Saturday the 7th of March at 2pm, with a preshow tactile tour at 1pm
