Anonymous donor funds Emeritus Professor George Rogers AO Supplementary Scholarship
In 2017 an anonymous donor made a donation of $150,000 to the University of Adelaide to establish the Emeritus Professor George Rogers AO Supplementary Scholarship.
With additional funding by the Faculty of Sciences, this scholarship valued at $10,000 per annum will be awarded each year to the highest ranked applicant for a Research Training Program Scholarship in the field of Molecular Bioscience.
Emeritus Professor George Rogers AO received a PhD (1963) and a Doctor of Science (1978) from the University of Adelaide. Since then he has made outstanding contributions in the areas of wool and hair follicle development, wool fibre production and sheep transgenesis. His work has had a significant impact to students and staff in the School of Biological Sciences.
In October this year George turned 90! The University of Adelaide took this opportunity to host a cocktail reception to celebrate his birthday and exceptional work in Molecular and Cellular Biology.
The event was attended by George’s friends, family and colleagues, some who travelled from interstate. George was overwhelmed by the event and the support of family and friends. After the presentation of the scholarship he was lost for words and very humbled by this honour. Although the donation was anonymous he thanked the donor for their generosity and the Faculty of Sciences for the additional funding to the scholarship. He also acknowledged his colleagues that he has worked with over the years and their contributions. George was also very thankful to the University of Adelaide for the support throughout his career and providing him space to continue to work.
The inaugural recipient of the scholarship will be awarded in 2019.
