Celebrating 100 years
Following the passing of Peter and Matilda Waite in 1922, their Urrbrae property, which they bequeathed to the University of Adelaide for scientific studies specifically related to agriculture, was handed to the University. The Waite Agricultural Research Institute was then established in 1924.
Now in 2024, in its 100th year, the Waite Campus continues to be home to one of the largest concentrations of agricultural and wine research and teaching expertise in the southern hemisphere. An exclusive black-tie, stand-up cocktail affair, the Waite 100 Gala, featuring food by celebrity chef Matt Moran and supported by East End Cellars, will celebrate 100 years of the enduring Waite gift.
Funds raised on the night will contribute to the Peter Waite Centenary Scholarship for Excellence in Agriculture with the view to increase accessibility to education for generations to come.
We have now reached a point where it behoves us to call science to our aid to a greater extent than has hitherto been done, otherwise we cannot hope to keep in the forefront.Peter Waite
