Indigenous Scholarship Opportunities

The University of Adelaide has a range of scholarship opportunities available specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who are undertaking Higher Degree Research (HDR) studies i.e., a Masters by Research or Doctor of Philosophy. A brief description of each of these opportunities is provided below and further details are available via the link provided in the listing.

All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander HDR students are also encouraged to apply for other scholarships advertised in the Postgraduate Research Scholarships database.

 

Major Scholarships

The Hospital Research Foundation Group – SA Health – The University of Adelaide Indigenous Scholarship

Major scholarship - $46,653 p.a. - PhD

This scholarship is available to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students undertaking research aimed at addressing current priority public health issues in South Australia (e.g. Health Promotion, Food Safety, Water Safety, Disease Surveillance, Climate Change).

Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarship for Indigenous Students

Major scholarship - $50,291 p.a. - PhD or Masters by Research

These scholarships are funded by the Australian Government to support Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students who are commencing, or currently undertaking any higher degree by research program at the University of Adelaide.

Supplementary Scholarships

 

Rotary Adelaide Centenary PhD Indigenous Supplementary Scholarships

Supplementary scholarship - $30,000 p.a. - PhD

Funded by Rotary, the University of Adelaide and SAHMRI, this scholarship provides funding for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students researching the prevention and reduction of the burden of chronic disease in Aboriginal communities through best-practice research.

Julia Konig Scholarship for Indigenous Students

Supplementary scholarship - $6,000 p.a. – PhD or Masters by Research

This scholarship is awarded to the highest-ranking Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student allocated a major scholarship in the competitive scholarship rounds.
