Shaping the future of Australia's mining operations
The University of Adelaide will lead a new national mining research and training centre utilising advanced technologies that will help to shape the future of Australia’s mining operations.
The Australian Government today announced $3.7 million funding for the new Australian Research Council Industrial Transformation Training Centre for Integrated Operations for Complex Resources.
Funded with another $2 million plus $6.8 million in-kind support from research and industry organisations, the $12.5 million centre will deliver enabling tools and train the next generation of scientists and engineers in advanced sensors, data analytics and artificial intelligence to increase value in mining and processing of complex resources. New project to boost copper extraction from sub-economic deposits
IMER has been awarded a new project to extract copper and other minerals from sub-economic deposits. $2.8m awarded by the Australian Government’s Co-operative Research Centre Projects (CRC-P) Scheme to a collaboration led by Environmental Copper Recovery SA Pty Ltd and including researchers from the University of Adelaide.

Solar thermal energy for lowering emissions in alumina production
Our researchers have found that introducing concentrating solar thermal (CST) technologies to the Bayer alumina process could enable a 29-45% solar share. This would displace the need for natural gas and decrease operating fuel costs.
