How Research Degrees Open Doors: Career Day Highlights

career day 2025

We had an amazing day Wednesday at the 2025 University of Adelaide Career Day Expo!

This was our first time at the expo, and we aimed to provide students with valuable insights into the opportunities that a research degree in industry can offer.

A research degree in industry allows students to collaborate closely with industry partners. Some of the notable companies that CET research students have engaged with include Sparc Technologies, Calix Limited, Sandia National Laboratories, and Emirates Global Aluminium. These partnerships provide a dynamic and practical learning experience, opening pathways for impactful research and career advancement.

Many current PhD students have shared how beneficial industry collaboration has been for their academic and professional growth. Some of the key benefits highlighted include:

  • Gaining practical insights into current industry technologies
  • Learning how research skills can solve or enhance real-life problems through real-world applications
  • Acquiring valuable experiences that strengthen future career development.
  • Creating meaningful impact while building confidence and improving communication skills.
  • Accessing professional networks that extend across Australia and globally.
  • Receiving funding and support to enhance research projects and initiatives.

Throughout the day, we engaged in insightful conversations with students, discussing the diverse pathways a research degree can offer and highlighting the real-world value of industry collaboration. It was inspiring to see students' enthusiasm about how their academic pursuits can align with industry challenges and innovations.

We look forward to fostering more discussions around research and industry integration, helping students to envision and shape their future careers. Thank you to everyone who visited our booth and contributed to making the day a success!
