Gold-embellished covers continue in cabinet 4, where patterned grain cloth binds some of the more interesting titles of the 19th century, including The Universe: Or, the Infinitely Great and the Infinitely Little and Things a Lady Would Like to Know Concerning Domestic Management and Expenditure: Arranged for Daily Reference with Hints Regarding the Intellectual as Well as the Physical Life.

London: Sampson Low, Marston, Low, and Searle. 1876 Publisher's brown patterned sand-grain cloth over bevelled boards.  Black and gilt stamped front cover with pictorially illustrated spine depicting the Spanish bullfight.  All edges gilt.

Pouchet, M.D. London: Blackie and Son. 1870 Publisher's green patterned sand-grain cloth over bevelled boards.  Central gilt vignette depicting the Earth’s equator, along with two black and gilt roundels featuring the classical elements of air, water and fire and the Linnaean kingdoms (animal, vegetable, mineral) of the natural world.  Additional gold scientific illustrations to the spine.  All edges gilt.

The Poetical Works of Mrs. F. Hemans: With Memoir. Felicia Dorothea Browne Hemans. Edingburgh: Gall & Inglis. Undated but circa 1876. Classic Victorian binding in publisher’s original brown cloth. Front cover decorated in gilt and black with author’s name and book title relief stamped in blue over gilt banners. Four gilt medallions to each corner depicting Shakespeare and Burns, plus historical buildings of London and Edinburgh. Front cover also inlaid with painted wooden floral motif and surrounded by an ornate gilt-stamped border.

Undated but circa 1876 Brown publisher’s cloth over bevelled boards.  Decorative blind stamping to rear cover with vivid gilt and black embossing to front cover.  Gold-blocked title on spine and all edges gilt.  Bookseller ticket to front paste-down: “George Robertson, Importer of Books and Stationery, 103 King William St, Opposite Town Hall, Adelaide”.
