Dixon's Agar for Malassezia furfur

For primary isolation and cultivation of Malassezia furfur.

Ingredients

Malt extract (Oxoid L39) 9 g

Bacto Tryptone 1.5 g

Ox-bile desiccated (Oxoid L50) 5 g

Tween 40 2.5 ml

Oleic acid 0.5 g

Glycerol 0.5 mL

Bacto agar (BD) 3 g

Distilled water 250 mL

Method

Soak ingredients for 15 minutes in some water.

Bring remaining water to boil, add to other ingredients. Bring to boil once more.

Dispense for slopes.

Autoclave at 121C for 10 minutes and then slope.
