University of Adelaide community recognised in Australia Day Honours

Helen Marshall

The University of Adelaide congratulates alumni, staff and friends recognised in the 2022 Australia Day Honours list.

Members of the University community, who have had honours bestowed, include Professor Helen Marshall AM, Professor Gregory Crawford AM, Professor John Williams AM, and Ms Kathryn Presser AM.

Professor Helen Marshall AM (Professor of Vaccinology in the Adelaide Medical School and Deputy Director, Robinson Research Institute) has become a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia for significant service to medicine in the field of vaccinology and public health, to research, and to education.

Professor Marshall provides leadership nationally and internationally in immunisation and infectious diseases research and policy. She is also South Australian of the Year 2022.

Professor Gregory Crawford AM (Professor of Palliative Medicine at the Adelaide Medical School) has become a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia for significant service to palliative care, and to tertiary education.

Professor Crawford is a practicing palliative care physician and has clinical responsibilities with the Northern Adelaide Palliative Service. His major research activities focus on the psychological issues for people and their carers, as the end of life approaches, as well as clinicians.

Professor John Williams AM (Executive Dean of the Faculty of Professions and Acting Provost) has become a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia for significant contribution to tertiary education, to the law, and to professional organisations.

Professor Williams research interests extend across public law and in particular Australian constitutional law, The High Court of Australia, comparative constitutional law, federalism and legal history. In recent times he has developed his research to investigate water law and the regulation of the Murray-Darling.  He has held a number of Australian Research Council and national competitive grants and is the current and founding Director of The South Australian Law Reform Institute.

Ms Kathryn Presser AM (University of Adelaide council member and Finance Committee Chair) has become a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia for significant service to business in the field of accountancy, and to the community.

Ms Presser is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Company Secretaries, a Fellow of the Certified Practising Accounting Association, a Fellow of the Governance institute of Australia, a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and holds an MBA from the University of Adelaide.

Professor Peter Hoj, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Adelaide has extended his congratulations to the 2022 Australia Day award recipients: 
“My congratulations to Helen, Gregory, John, Kathryn and the many other distinguished members of our community who have been recognised in the Australia Day Honours.

“We are enormously proud of their outstanding achievements and it is wonderful to see work and service of this calibre recognised nationally.”
