Deputy Vice-Chancellor's message
Great teachers have the power to transform lives. Most of us can remember a teacher from school or university who changed the way we thought about our subject, the world in which we live, or even ourselves.
At the University of Adelaide, outstanding teaching is at the core of the world-class educational experience our students expect, and deserve.
Excellent teaching leads to engaged and successful students, who in turn will become the leaders, researchers and change-makers of the future.
This Friday 28 October, we will be celebrating World Teachers’ Day by recognising some of our own outstanding educators. To share some of their achievements, we’ve created a new webpage, Celebrating Teaching Excellence, which I encourage you to visit.
Featured on our new page are Associate Professor Lyndsey Collins-Praino (School of Biomedicine, Faculty of HMS), Ms Kayoko Enomoto (School of Social Sciences, Faculty of ABLE), Dr Richard Lilly (School of Physical Sciences, Faculty of SET), Dr Beth Loveys (School of Agriculture, Food and Wine, Faculty of SET), and Dr Thomas Wanner (School of Social Sciences, Faculty of ABLE). They have all generously taken the time to talk about their current projects and plans for the future.
This week, I encourage each of you to think about a current or past member of our University community whose teaching skills you admire. If you are able, take a moment to share with that individual what you admire and value about their teaching. On behalf of the University, thank you to our educators for your dedication, hard work and enthusiasm.
Professor Jennie Shaw
Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Academic)
