Vice-Chancellor's message
Last week I had the pleasure of attending one of my favourite annual events at our University: the Children’s University graduations in Bonython Hall.
Diwali celebrations
We recently celebrated Diwali on our Maths Lawns, bringing together 450 guests for an evening of lights, music, and tradition. The event featured dance performances, diya painting, Parai drumming, Henna art, and more, all capturing the spirit of Diwali.

My family is Indian, but soon after I was born, we moved to Kenya because there were better professional opportunities for my dad. I have always been passionate about learning new things, but coming from Kenya, I didn’t really have access to knowledge as you would here.

The University of Adelaide has made significant progress on its sustainability initiatives. In 2023, the University accomplished eight targets from our Sustainability Strategy 2030 – Here for good.
Taikunthi now open
North Terrace Campus has a new restaurant, café and bar on level 5 Union House. Taikunthi (pronounced ‘tie-goon-dee’), reflects the spirit of its Kaurna name, meaning to ‘join, unite and partner together’. The menu features dishes made from tasty local ingredients and a carefully curated beverage offering. Open from 8am weekdays for coffee and breakfast, lunch with colleagues or a drink after work. The University is committed to enabling the sense of inclusion and belonging needed for students and staff to engage in meaningful and impactful teaching and learning. Next week we will explore the ways we make this aim a reality at the Festival of Learning and Teaching.

New campus artworks
Prominent artist and alum Peter Drew was at work at each of our campuses last Thursday pasting up new artworks created for Lumen magazine and the University. The striking posters are of Edith Dornwell, our first female graduate and Australia’s first science graduate in 1885. They are screen printed and painted images individually created by Peter, with a dozen of them now prominently displayed on walls at Waite, Roseworthy and North Terrace.

New $60M healthcare agreement translates into global good
The University of Adelaide’s JBI, an international leader in evidence-based healthcare, has entered into a Research Translation Agreement with Wolters Kluwer, which has operations in more than 40 countries across the world. Read the full media release.
