Exploring Engagement Within Citizen Science at UWA
On 24 May 2021, we were joined by Ms Chrissy Tustison, Ms Tamara Pinkerton, Ms Stephanie Collins and Dr Heather Bray from the University of Western Australia who provided an update on various citizen science-focused projects currently underway at UWA.
Firstly, Chrissy discussed her PhD project which involves using citizen science as a tool for the conservation of seadragons. Tamara then spoke about her Honours project which will explore how to overcome the obstacles which prevent people with disabilities from participating in citizen science. Stephanie also spoke about her Masters project which seeks to understand scientists' attitudes towards citizen science, including key barriers and motivations. Finally, Heather talked about the process of developing the Citizen Science unit as part of the Master of Science Communication degree at UWA.
