The Maurice de Rohan International Scholarship supports an Australian student undertaking a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at Adelaide University to undertake research overseas in the United Kingdom or the United States of America.
The scholarship provides funding to enhance a PhD thesis through international research, data collection, collaboration with academic or industry partners, and the development of global research networks. Recipients will represent Adelaide University as ambassadors while building meaningful international research relationships.
Recipients will receive up to $15,000 towards travel and living expenses to support an overseas research visit of 4 to 6 months. Eligible costs include: research or industry experience at a partner institution; overseas fieldwork and data collection; living expenses during the research visit; and conference travel to present a refereed conference paper.
Eligibility
To be eligible, you must:
- Be an Australian citizen
- Be enrolled in a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at Adelaide University
- Normally be in your second year or early third year of candidature (or equivalent part-time), or upgrading from a Master by Research to a PhD degree
- Have completed and had your research proposal accepted
- Have the required ethics and/or safety approvals in place
- Demonstrate capacity for independent research
- Be making satisfactory academic progress
- Be likely to complete your degree within the required timeframe
You must also:
- Provide confirmation of arrangements with a host institution in the United Kingdom or United States
- Outline how you will maintain contact with your supervisor and the University while overseas
The scholarship may be held concurrently with other scholarships or grants.
Selection criteria
The Scholarship will be awarded via a competitive selection process managed by the Adelaide University Graduate Research School, based on academic merit, research potential, and the quality and impact of the proposed overseas research.Important information
Applicants must demonstrate the capacity to act as a Maurice de Rohan International Scholar and ambassador for Adelaide University.
Time spent overseas cannot be used as grounds for scholarship or candidature extension.
Upon return, recipients must provide a brief report outlining the work undertaken.
