Sponsored by Mitchell Jane and Andrew Mitchell established the winery in 1975 on the Mitchell family property in the western hills of the Clare Valley. The grapes for the Mitchell wines come mostly from the company's three local vineyards, which sit at an altitude between 300 and 400 metres.
