Fume Cupboards

Labs typically use 1.5 times the energy of an office, and fume cupboards make up around 16% of this.

The 'sash' is the moveable pane that controls the exhaust flow to a fume cupboard. The lower the sash, the less energy is consumed.

What you can do

  • Keep the sash down!
  • Place prompt stickers on the side of the fume cupboard to remind users to work with the sash down as far as possible. The three zones on the sticker - red, yellow and green - show optimal sash positioning for safety and energy efficiency.
