HiTeMP-4

The Centre for Energy Technology, the Heavy Industry Low-carbon Transition (HILT) CRC, and Mission Innovation's Net Zero Industries (NZI) Mission has held the fourth international forum on High Temperature Minerals Processing (HiTeMP-4).

The forum, which was held at the National Wine Centre, Adelaide, from 21-23 October 2024, built on the outcomes of the previous HiTeMP forums in identifying the next steps for decarbonising heavy industry. World-leading experts participated in the discussion to further shape a carbon-constrained future and prepare for the new, low-carbon economy.

The High Temperature Minerals Processing (HiTeMP) Forum has become a go-to forum for industry, researchers and government agencies at the forefront of implementing the transition to net-zero CO2 emissions for high temperature industrial processes used to produce materials such iron, steel, cement and aluminium.

The HiTeMP Forum is technology neutral. It recognises that electrification, hydrogen, alternative fuels, net-zero heat and carbon-capture storage/reuse are all likely to have a role to play. It also recognises that the low-carbon transition will significantly impact on global supply chains, generating new opportunities for those nations with a coincidence of net-zero energy and mineral resources.

With a growing number of high temperature manufacturing companies across the world already committed to decarbonise, new markets are opening both for the emerging certified low-carbon products and for the new technologies needed to manufacture them.

The HiTeMP Forum engages all of the key stakeholder groups from around the world to share the latest developments and develop synthesised perspectives of emerging drivers, technologies, barriers and enablers to further decarbonise energy-intensive, high temperature process industries.

HiTeMP-4 is proudly brought to you jointly by the University of Adelaide’s Centre for Energy Technology, the Heavy Industry Low-carbon Transition (HILT) CRC, and Mission Innovation's Net Zero Industry (NZI) mission. Learn more about our co-partners.

Overall Aims for HiTeMP-4

  1. To identify leading exemplars and opportunities in the path toward net zero-carbon production for high temperature industrial processes, notably cement/lime, iron/steel and alumina/aluminium and non-ferrous metal industries;
  2. To identify state of the art and emerging opportunities to implement circular economy principals for the heavy industrial sector;
  3. To identify new opportunities to accelerate the establishment of infrastructure in net-zero energy and fuels for the industrial sector;
  4. To identify best practice in the establishment of industrial hubs that lower the cost of the net-zero transition for industry;
  5. To identify opportunities through collaboration and international partnerships, knowledge-sharing, industrial/innovation ecosystems, new business, markets and financial models, together with policy and regulatory frameworks to accelerate the pathway to net zero for industry;
  6. To identify next steps for the sector, including key enablers, projects and demonstrations that are needed to de-risk future investments in the path toward net zero-carbon production.
