Sometimes there are events or illnesses beyond your control that stop you from being able to continue your studies.
If you think you may have special circumstances that meet the criteria required, then you’ll need to submit an Amendment to Enrolment and Fees.

Discontinuation of studies
We’re sad to see you go – but understand that your situation may have changed or you aren’t able to continue your studies as planned.
Before you submit this request, we want to make sure you’re aware of all your options:
- Have you been experiencing some personal struggles, illness or just finding it hard to cope with uni life? We’re here to help, and there are many free support services on campus to assist you in finding that work, life, and study balance.
- Do you just need a break from study? You may be able to instead take a leave of absence which allows you to suspend your studies for six months to a year, while maintaining your position in your degree.
- Not sure if your current program is right for you or want to change career path? You may want to instead apply for an internal transfer to change degrees, or speak with the Careers team to help you work out your personal career goals.
- If none of the above scenarios fit your situation, but you’re still not 100% sure if you’d like to continue your studies, we encourage you to have a chat with your faculty (or International Student Support if you are an international student) to discuss what is your next best step.
If you are certain that you want to discontinue your program, you must ensure you have dropped all enrolments, including any in future study periods, otherwise you will incur the fees for any courses you remain enrolled in after the relevant census date(s).
Once you’ve done this, please then submit a Discontinuation of Studies form.
