Fossil find uncovers our ancient past
The ancient history of Earth is always fascinating. The fossil record shows creatures that once roamed, habitats that are now lost and describe an Earth that is both foreign and familiar. Research that uncovers more about our ancient land are compelling, like the latest from Dr Diego Garcia-Bellido.
Garcia-Bellido and co-workers uncovered fossils in South Australia, originating from the Edicaran Period some 635 to 542 million years ago. The fossils were of creatures dwelling on the sea-floor and represented various stages of life - some juvenile, some mature. The research constructs a more complete view of our past and helps us to understand how ancient life dealt with changes to their habitat. The research was published in Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology.
