Extreme Heat and Health Adaptation Team announced as finalist in 2023 Eureka Prizes

Congratulations to the Extreme Heat and Health Adaptation Team announced as finalists in the Aspire Scholarship Eureka Prize for Excellence in Interdisciplinary Scientific Research category in the 2023 Australian Museum Eureka Prizes.

The Australian Museum Eureka Prizes are the nation’s premier science awards, celebrating achievement across a broad spectrum of science, from environmental to innovative technologies, citizen science, leadership and mentoring.

Environment Institute's Prof. Peng Bi  leads the Extreme Heat and Health Adaptation Team which also includes Environment Institute's Prof. Dino Pisaniello. The team is a collaboration between the University of Adelaide, Australian National University, The University of Sydney, Flinders University, The University of Western Australia, Queensland University of Technology, SA Health, SA SES, SafeWork SA, Bureau of Meteorology. This incredible team is leveraging expertise in sociology, epidemiology and meteorology to investigate the health risks of extreme heat and develop evidence-based life-saving interventions, guidance and targeted educational resources, enabling Australia’s flagship heatwave warning system. The initiatives of this team will help protect vulnerable populations from the health impacts of heatwaves intensified by the climate crisis.

This is the second time this team has been named as a finalist in this category award. The winners will be revealed on Wednesday 23 August 2023 at a prize ceremony in Sydney.
