Eat The Invaders: Available For Streaming Now

"Eat the Invaders" a new Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) show hosted by Tony Armstrong is a six-part series, identifying the impacts that introduced species have wrought upon the Australian landscape and its ecosystems, which costs Australia over $20 billion annually, and threaten native wildlife. 

The show features scientific guidance every episode from our very own University of Adelaide Environment Institute Director Professor Andrew Lowe, and Environment Institute member, Professor Phill Cassey.

“Feral mammals like rabbits, camels, and deer cause immense environmental and economic damage,” explains Professor Lowe. “Tackling this issue is critical for the health of our ecosystems.”

Professor Cassey adds, “Australia is home to approximately 3,000 invasive alien species, making it the number one environmental issue here. Through this series, we aim to spark meaningful conversations about managing these species in an accessible, engaging way.”

The episodes pairs science with creativity as chef Vince Trim and artist Kirsha Kaechele transform pests into haute cuisine, judged by familiar faces like Poh Ling Yeow and Dr. Karl Kruszelnicki.

“We wanted to mix serious science with humor and creativity,” says series writer and director Matthew Bate. “The input from Professors Phill and Andy ensured that Eat the Invaders is both educational and entertaining.”

The goal? To spark conversations about tackling Australia’s invasive species in an engaging and accessible way.
