SA Environment Awards Nominations Now Open!

Nominations Now Open for the 2025 SA Environment Awards! The University of Adelaide’s Environment Institute is proud to partner with Conservation Council SA, Green Adelaide, and the Department for Environment and Water to present the 2025 SA Environment Awards.
These prestigious awards celebrate the individuals, groups, and organisations dedicated to protecting South Australia’s natural environment. With six award categories, including the Jill Hudson Award for Environmental Protection and the new Innovation Award, the program highlights the incredible efforts of those working to restore landscapes, champion biodiversity, and build a sustainable future.
Past winners include inspiring researchers such as our very own Environment Institute member Dr Dominic McAfee, community groups, and advocates who have made meaningful contributions to our environment.
Nominations are now open and close at 5 pm on Friday, 14 March across six categories:

Jill Hudson Award for Environmental Protection – Established in 1998, this award honours a South Australian individual who has made an exceptional impact in safeguarding the state’s environment.

Pelzer Prize – Supported by Green Adelaide, the Pelzer Prize celebrates conservation leaders and environmental champions dedicated to restoring landscapes, creating wildlife habitats, connecting people with nature, or revitalising natural spaces.

Working Together Award – This award acknowledges groups or organisations that have recently delivered significant environmental achievements through collaborative efforts.

Innovation Award – A newly introduced award that recognises individuals, organisations, or companies for pioneering or implementing innovative solutions that contribute to a sustainable future.

Leif Justham Young Achiever Award – Named after inspiring young climate activist Leif Justham, this award honours individuals or groups under 28 who have made a meaningful contribution to environmental protection in South Australia.

Conservation Science Award – This award recognises research that is either ready for practical application or has successfully translated scientific findings into real-world conservation outcomes.
Winners will be celebrated at the awards ceremony on World Environment Day, 5 June 2025!
