Defining the potential for mangrove-based agribusiness transformation in the coastal Mekong Delta, Vietnam

Project kick off meeting

The Mekong Delta region in Vietnam is facing several development challenges but the Government of Vietnam (GoV) is committed overcoming these and support the growth of the agricultural sector in the region. The Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) recently awarded Environment Institute’s Future Making Fellow, Dr Pham Thu Thuy, $471,200 for a project on ‘Defining the potential for mangrove-based agribusiness transformation in the coastal Mekong Delta’.

Climate change threatens to cause ‘synchronised harvest failures’ across the globe, with implications for Australia’s food security

New research shows scientists have underestimated the climate risk to agriculture and global food production. Blind spots in climate models meant “high-impact but deeply-uncertain hazards” were ignored. But now that the threat of “synchronised harvest failures” has been revealed, we cannot ignore the prospect of global famine.

Success at the 2023 SA Environment Awards

It was a successful night for Environment Institute members at the 2023 South Australia's Environment Awards, with Professor Sarah Wheeler receiving the Jill Hudson Award for Environment Protection and Professor Philip Weinstein receiving a certificate of commendation for research in the Pelzer Prize.
