Enhancing Agricultural Traceability for Market Sustainability: A Southeast Asian Perspective

Digital agriculture

Background

Agricultural traceability has become a critical factor in ensuring market sustainability, especially in Southeast Asia, where agriculture plays a central role in economic development, food security and trade. With increasing consumer demand for transparency regarding food origins, safety, and environmental sustainability, traceability systems help track agricultural products throughout the supply chain – from farm to consumer.

Developing, building and maintaining trust of Australian Agriculture in the Southeast Asian region provides an excellent opportunity for Brand Australia and our leading agricultural industries to expand and grow into a geographically important and opportunistic part of the world.

This project provides a unique opportunity to get first-hand insights and information from what these emerging markets are seeking regarding information and traceability system requirements, to best serve those market on a fit-for-purpose basis to build trust, build relationships and underpin the integrity of the clean, green, safe, sustainable and quality reputation of Australian Agriculture.

Project Objectives

The project will address the following objectives:

1. Gain insights from direct face-to-face interviews and engagement with key stakeholders, including retailers (i.e. category managers, customer engagement teams, sustainability managers, executive personnel), food buyers/importers, and governmental sustainability/food safety/trade officers, regarding current and future essential credentials necessary for traceability systems in Southeast Asian countries.

2. Develop a pilot traceability case study using software solutions based on the insights obtained from key stakeholders for selected agricultural commodities.

3. Implement software solutions, demonstrate its functionality within the target markets, and collect feedback for further refinement.
