Learning Support Classroom

The Learning Support Classroom is a safe learning environment where university staff can book times to meet with their students to discuss their learning on a drop-in basis, and where students can study quietly in small groups outside those times.

The classroom

The Learning Support Classroom is on the eastern side of Level 3 Hub Central, North Terrace Campus, right next to the Maths Learning Centre.

There are 13 tables that can be booked by university staff to run learning support sessions, where students can drop in without appointments to discuss their learning in specific courses. Each table has a sign on the nearest wall saying its table number and what sessions are booked there.

Resources such as paper, pens, whiteboards, whiteboard markers, extension cords and staplers are available to borrow while in the Classroom.

A room with white tables each with six black chairs. Supporting pillars are painted green and each have a poster declaring a table number. There are also wooden cupboards dividing the space into smaller classrooms.

Running learning support sessions

If you are a lecturer or course coordinator at the University of Adelaide, and you would like to run learning support sessions in the Learning Support Classroom, then please email mathslearning@adelaide.edu.au to discuss your needs (the Learning Support Classroom is managed by the Maths Learning Centre).

Sessions in the Learning Support Classroom must be run with students dropping in without specific appointments, as opposed to appointment-based. Sessions can be as simple as one hour a week with just the course lecturer, similar to traditional "consulting time", or as complex as several-hour sessions on multiple days run by multiple tutors. You will be organising your own tutors/lecturers and your own adversiting to your students. What we provide at the Learning Support Classroom is a space to run your sessions, and assistance to you and your tutors when you need it.

After you contact us, you will be allocated a table at your chosen times, and these times will be displayed on the wall near your table, and here on the webpage. Before your first session, you or your tutors will be given an induction to the space, and we will organise card access to the Student Academic Skills office and tea room. You can also choose to keep resources such as textbooks or handouts in the cupboard nearest your table. While your sessions are running, you and your tutors will be able to seek assistance from the Maths Learning Centre at any time if you need it. There is also a Microsoft Teams space where we keep the timetable and make announcements.
